It's under a week since i have switched my blog from silverstripe to drupal. And i'm astonished. I had expected that drupal would be more mature than Silverstripe but not such a big difference. With drupal i was able to achieve every goal i had set myself in a very short time. Do not assume that silverstripe is a bad system, but for someone like me who only wants a system that works it's not yet there. I'm pretty sure they will get there.
Now i just have to go and apologize to some of my friends. I told them to use silverstripe. And if i can't get silverstripe to do what i want i'm pretty sure they can't either.
But back to drupal. The configuration is intuitive most of the time. I sometimes get confused trying to find a setting in the administration menu. They have :
- Content Management
- Site Building
- Site Configuration
- User Management
- Reports
For example i always look for modules configuration ( enable/disable modules ) - under "Site Configuration". But it is under "Site Building". I don't know why but i always seem to forget where it was last time.
But that's just a minor thing. Everything else convinced me. I had:
- setup my blog,
- some static pages,
- a hidden page in to languages,
- email notification on new comments
- and a new role for content producer on the first day without taking a glimpse at the documentation. Everything worked as expected.
All in all i only can say: "Go ahead and use drupal".
Mike
